Huatulco Airport Taxi Guide 2026: Transfers & Prices

You've landed at Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX), the sun is out, it's about 30 °C, and all you want is to get to your hotel. The good news: Huatulco's hotel zones are close to the airport, most of them 15 to 20 minutes away. The less obvious news: how you leave the airport makes a big difference in price, waiting time and comfort. This guide explains how a Huatulco airport taxi works in 2026, what changes when you pre-book a private transfer, what prices to expect by zone, and exactly where your driver will meet you.

📍 Arriving at HUX step by step

HUX is a small, easy airport with an open-air, palapa-style terminal. Here is what your arrival looks like:

1. Immigration (international flights). If you fly in from the US or Canada, you'll go through immigration first. Have your passport and the address of your hotel ready.
2. Baggage claim. Bags arrive on a single belt in each terminal; it's usually quick.
3. Customs. International passengers press the customs button or go through inspection. Domestic passengers skip this.
4. The arrivals hall. As you walk out you'll see transport counters and people offering rides. If you already booked with us, you don't need to stop here — keep walking.
5. Exit the terminal. Use the main doors of the domestic or international terminal.
6. Walk to the federal highway. Follow the straight, signposted pedestrian walkway for about 300 meters (around 3 minutes). Your landmarks are the OXXO convenience store and the Pemex gas station.
7. Meet your driver. Your driver waits there with a sign showing your name, in an air-conditioned car.

Quick tips before you land:

• Send us your flight number when you book. We track flights in real time, so delays are not a problem.
• Have pesos for small purchases, although we accept cash, card or bank transfer for the ride.
• If you're traveling with surfboards, golf bags or a lot of luggage, tell us in advance so we assign the right vehicle.
• Traveling with kids? Child or baby car seats are available on request, at a minimum cost of $100 MXN / 5 USD.

🚗 Taxi vs pre-booked transfer

There are two main ways to leave HUX by car.

Airport (ramp) taxis and counter transport. These operate inside the terminal area under airport concessions. They are convenient if you didn't plan anything, but you may wait in line after a full flight lands, and fares are set at the counter at that moment. Pre-booked private transfer (outside the terminal). You book before you fly, get a fixed price, and your driver is already waiting when you walk out. Benefits:

• Night service. Arriving late or at dawn? Night service runs from 10 PM to 5 AM, charged per hour and paid in advance.

Why do our drivers wait outside? Federal airport rules don't allow outside drivers to enter the terminal to pick up passengers, so the authorized boarding area on the highway is where pre-booked transfers meet their guests. It's a short walk, and it's the reason a pre-booked ride is usually the better deal.

Which should you choose? If you're a solo traveler with a backpack and no plan, a ramp taxi works. If you're a couple, a family or a group, arriving late, or just want certainty, pre-book. Since the price is per vehicle, the more of you there are, the better the value.

📍 Where your driver meets you

This is the part most visitors worry about, so here it is clearly:

• Meeting point: Federal highway, in front of the OXXO store / Pemex gas station, right outside the airport.
• How to get there: From the terminal exit, follow the pedestrian walkway straight ahead for about 300 m (≈3 minutes). It's flat and signposted.
• How to recognize your driver: He or she will be holding a personalized sign with your name.
• If you can't find us: Message us on WhatsApp at +52 958 106 7921. Most phones get signal as soon as you leave the plane; airport Wi-Fi is limited, so consider an eSIM or a roaming plan.

Small details that help:

• Tell us how many passengers and bags you have.
• If you'll stop at an ATM or the restroom, no problem — your driver is tracking your flight and will wait.
• Departing later? Book your return to the airport at the same time. We recommend leaving your hotel 2 hours before domestic flights and about 3 hours before international flights; Tangolunda and Conejos are around 20 minutes away.
